Pastoral and Medical Care

Pastoral and medical care are covered by the teachers during class time and supervisory assistants during the lunch break. All prescribed medicines to be taken by children in school time must be accompanied by signed written instructions from parents (includes clearly labelled medication showing child’s name, dosage and frequency).

In the case of accidents, the school accident book is completed. For more serious accidents, parents will be contacted by phone. Any child who suffers from a bumped head will have a form completed that will be sent home with the child.

Medical care is catered for by the Area Health Authority and they retain the children’s Medical History at Pickering Health Centre. The Health Authority examine the children at intervals throughout their school life. Any specialist help e.g. speech therapy can be requested by the school in consultation with the parents.

The School Nurse makes regular hygiene visits to the school. There is a good liaison between the School Health Authorities and the children’s own doctors.
