Parents frequently ask for guidance about the homework which their children should be doing and recent research that appropriate homework can enhance children’s learning very effectively. We believe that if children work hard in school during the day they are entitled to play and participate in activities such as Cubs and Brownies in the evenings. However, we know that if children work on short tasks at home it can benefit and consolidate their school-work. It also gives parents the opportunity to see what their children are studying in school. Our classes have a programme for homework*; from the younger children sharing a book and talking about the day’s experiences to the older children having more formal tasks to complete. In every case we believe that family life should come first.
